Maya resents Sonia's 'silence'

BSP supremo Mayawati questioned Congress President Sonia Gandhi's "silence" over the UPCC President Rita Bahuguna Joshi's alleged derogatory statement against her and alleged that it was done at the instruction of Congress High Command. "The most painful thing is that Sonia Gandhi has remained silent over the issue. She has neither condemned this humiliating, uncivilised and derogatory statement nor has she taken any action against her at the party level. This clearly shows that the humiliating statement by Joshi was made at the instance of Congress High Command," the UP Chief Minister said at a press conference adding the comments were "not at all pardonable".more »

'India aware of China's infrastructure build up at LoAC'

New Delhi:

Noting that it is aware about China's infrastructure build up along the Line of Actual Control, government today said India is also ramping up its infrastructure in border areas to meet its strategic and security requirements. "Government is aware that China is developing infrastructure in border regions opposite India in the Tibet and Xinjiang autonomous regions," Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur told Rajya Sabha. She said government continues to develop infrastructure in India's border areas in order to meet the country's "strategic and security requirements and to facilitate the economic development.more »


CMIE revises India's growth forecast to 5.8%

Economic think-tank CMIE on Thursday revised down India's growth forecast to 5.8 per cent in the current fiscal on account of lower agricultural output and slower industrial recovery due to the poor progress of monsoon. The six activists of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) -- Vimal Tomar, Pankaj Mishra, Vimal Rajoria, Shashiranjan Akela, Hemant Dubey and Sudhir Yadav -- were facing murder charges under various sections of IPC.
