BSP supremo Mayawati questioned Congress President Sonia Gandhi's "silence" over the UPCC President Rita Bahuguna Joshi's alleged derogatory statement against her and alleged that it was done at the instruction of Congress High Command. "The most painful thing is that Sonia Gandhi has remained silent over the issue. She has neither condemned this humiliating, uncivilised and derogatory statement nor has she taken any action against her at the party level. Noting that it is aware about China's infrastructure build up along the Line of Actual Control, government today said India is also ramping up its infrastructure in border areas to meet its strategic and security requirements. "Government is aware that China is developing infrastructure in border regions opposite India in the Tibet and Xinjiang autonomous regions," Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur told Rajya Sabha. Economic think-tank CMIE on Thursday revised down India's growth forecast to 5.8 per cent in the current fiscal on account of lower agricultural output and slower industrial recovery due to the poor progress of monsoon. The six activists of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) -- Vimal Tomar, Pankaj Mishra, Vimal Rajoria, Shashiranjan Akela, Hemant Dubey and Sudhir Yadav -- were facing murder charges under various sections of IPC. They were accused of allegedly beating to death political science lecturer Prof Sabharwal on Aug 26, 2006 in Madhav College.more »
